Lack of updates on the Original line
You have probably noticed our lack of updates on new or returning Nespresso pods. That was not our choice but a consequence of Nespresso’s decision. It is clear how in 2023 the focus of the company was in releasing new pods for the Vertuo line mostly, and leaving only returning pods to the Original line.
The Vertuo got some interesting flavors like Whisky Essence, Vanilla, Chocolate, Golden Caramel, Juicy Watermelon Flavor Over Ice plus a plethora of returning pods like Honduras, Hawaii Kona, Jamaica Blue Mountain etc.
On the other side, the Original Line has seen a refresh of the Barista Creations line with new Caramello, Cioccolatino, Nocciola, and Vaniglia; but other than those, the only real addition have been the two Filter Style pods, Intense and Mild. Here and there some old pods have returned, the most recent being the summery Coconut Flavor Over Ice. Little else has happened on the Original line side of the Nespresso offering.
As a consequence, we did not publish many news in the last months. Most would have been just a short pop-up informing of the return of a pod, which is always welcomed to us, but not exactly exciting news. It seems clear that Nespresso is heavily shifting the focus to the Vertuo line, of which they still own full patent over and have no competition, while the Original line is going to become, sadly, an afterthought. We would love for Nespresso to disprove us with lots of interesting pods for the Original line this year. We don’t think it is coming though.
We will keep following news on the Original line. We do not want to update every time a returning limited edition pod makes its appearance again. It is a bit trite to write very short news that repeat the news of past years, in our opinion.
