Pumpkin Spice Cake

Pumpkin Spice Cake Review

  • Origin: Bourbon from Brazil and washed Arabica beans from Colombia
  • Body: 2
  • Roastiness: 2
  • Acidity: 3
  • Bitterness: 2

Light brown foam. Strong cinnamon aroma, sweet and long lasting. The cinnamon overcomes most other smells but a roasty aroma is powerful enough to be smelled too. Pumpkin is barely noticeable at the nose.

A pod with a medium body, quite creamy overall, with a velvety mouthfeel. Initially rather bitter and only slightly acidic. That changes when the coffee gets lukewarm, with bitterness becoming less pronounced. Some sweetness from the pumpkin is clearly present but not too intense.

Good aftertaste made of sweet and spicy notes. Pumpkin Spice Cake is definitely one of those coffee that lingers for a while on the palate.

Taste profile is rich in pumpkin and cinnamon flavors, with a hint of cardamom. Cloves flavor can be tasted at low temperatures. With generally moderate levels of acidity and a good amount of sweetness it is a coffee pod that is easy on the taste buds, easily enjoyable.

A smooth coffee, best appreciated in large mugs, as Nespresso themself recommend. With milk the coffee qualities nearly disappear, leaving a warm, autumnal coffee drink, heavy on cinnamon and pumpkin. Works well as a latte or cappuccino as long as the milk ratio isn’t too high. Overall a warm and smooth cup of coffee.

If anyone is wondering about caffeine content of this nespresso pod, I just spoke to a nespresso rep who sent me this information:

“The pumpkin spice cake flavoured coffee with a subtle note of sweet pumpkin wrapped in spice notes pumpkin and spices, it’s best served at 110 ml, it doesn’t have an intensity, and the quantity of caffeine in the capsules it’s as regular ones which is between 60 mg to 90 mg.”
