Brown foam. Very sweet aroma, with strong roasting notes. Overall a very enjoyable aroma.
The sweetness is not immediately noticeable at the taste, where saltiness, a heavy body and a good deal of bitterness are stronger, at medium and hot temperatures. High intensity. The roasting notes, present throughout the tasting, make the bitterness a pleasant one, highlighted by a noteworthy combination of saltiness and dryness.
At lower temperatures some acidity takes the lead, but it remains an accompanying factor more than a protagonist. The coffee remains a salty, roasty, with hints of cocoa, molasses and a vague sweetness. The crema is quite persisting.
Not a flavorful cup, more like a direct, straight type of espresso than a nuanced one. Similar to a Kazaar or Dharkan but with less pronounced notes of cocoa, in the former, and caramel, in the latter.
As with all the other Starbucks capsules, it works very well with milk, for lattes and cappuccinos full of intensity. In the case of this Espresso Roast the milk is even recommended, as the capsule tastes a tad better, more complete for sure, with milk than black.
