Medium brown foam. Caramel and cereals aroma, with woody hints. Dry and a very dark roast. Quite creamy, a heavy cup. Some bitterness mixes with the sweetness of the caramel, more pronounced as the coffee cools down. A bit of a burnt aftertaste. Persistent crema. Throughout a dry tasting experience for a coffee with a marked character and high intensity.

Colombia review
Brown foam. Not a coffee with an intense aroma. Nutty and fruity notes converge into the Colombia’s aroma. A vague sweetness mixed with light acidity, sort of like a sweet red wine, can be smelled too. Quite sweeter and acidic at the taste. Medium bodied, with a weak crema. Lots of red berries’ acidity in the aftertaste, whereas the juicy sweetness is present more at the tip of the tongue. Vaguely bitter, acidity is responsible of covering it. Medium intensity. Barista Corto review
A 2017-2019 Barista Limited Edition, then part of the Barista Creations line. Brown foam. Roasted aroma, strong and persistent. Medium acidity and quite bitter. Colder is less acidic but bitterness remains. Hints of chocolate, dark, can be tasted at times but overall the very dark roasting of this capsule obfuscate flavors. Strong and bitter is what the majority will feel of the Barista Corto. Drank with milk, the Barista Corto maintains a moderate flavor of roastiness while the chocolate is more subtle, nearly crossing to cereals-like territories. Not much of an aroma anymore. With the wrong coffee:milk ratio the coffee may be overwhelmed.

Dark brown foam. Intense roasted aroma, nutty and bitter. Some sweetness in the form of caramel can be smelled. An heavy-bodied capsule, with a velvety mouthfeel thanks to the thick layer of crema. Primarily a bitter coffee, with hints of acidity from the Arabica beans here and there. Salty finish but not in the aftertaste. Dry as well, with scarcely any sweetness in the taste. Woody and nutty, with a slight undertone of caramel providing the only source of sweetness. A dense and intense pod where the Robusta part is dominant over the Arabica one. A coffee similar to a dark-roasted espresso of the French/Italian tradition, great as a palate-cleanser.

Barista Chiaro review
A 2017-2019 Barista Limited Edition, then part of the Barista Creations line. Light brown foam. Nice aroma sweet and milky. Quite roasty too, nicely contrasting with the sweetness. Very light bodied, nearly watery. Barely bitter, with some acidity with milk qualities. Intensity is 5 according to Nespresso but it feels like a 2. This pod has a curious oily texture, especially felt at the back of the mouth. It easily swirls down the throat, like an oil would do. Weak crema. Taste profile is definitely milky, with a grapefruit/kiwi-like acidity, not very pronounced but clearly noticeable. No bitterness, mostly a pod with gentle sweetness accompanied by a tad of acidity.…

A 2019 Limited Edition. Re-issued in 2021. Dark brown foam. Intensely roasty, nutty aroma, with notes of spices and a weak sweetness. A classical, European espresso smell. Darkly roasted, with plenty of bitterness but still conserving some of the original acidity. Quite an intense pod, medium/heavy bodied. At low temperatures sweetness and acidity are more noticeable but it is a capsule that remains on the dark, bitter side of the coffee spectrum. Very persisting crema. Tasting notes of cocoa powder, nuts, specifically hazelnuts and cashews, accompany the general bitterness. A typical Brazilian coffee as it has been brewed across European cafes for centuries. Brown foam. Nutty/sweet aroma is prevalent. Medium in acidity and intensity (8 is perhaps too high compared to the same scale as Nespresso’s). A slightly bitter taste when hotter, progressively dwindling the closer the coffee gets to ambient temperature. Weak body. Quickly disappearing cream, increasing the overall weak feeling. Strictly a ristretto/espresso cup size as it easily becomes watery in larger cups.
