Brown foam. Intense, pungently spicy aroma. Clearly a dark roast already from the aroma, strong, permeating, sweet and bold. Crema is quite thick.
Quite dry, with a medium-full body. Some spiciness, like black pepper and curcuma, can be noticed in the aftertaste. In general, a dark chocolate, averagely bitter, cup of coffee, with notes of caramelized sugar due to the dark roasting.
Very low acidity, barely noticeable when hot. Easier to drink than the strong aroma would have hinted at. The dryness marries well with the spiciness. High intensity, for a blend that is a good morning cup but works also well as an afternoon one, as it isn’t as a dark drinking experience as it could be expected.
Chocolate, sugar, spices and salty notes merge in a surprisingly easy to drink coffee. Not very flavorful, more like a direct, specific, type of blend, created with a specific taste profile in mind.
P.S.= often Caffè Verona has been suggested as a substitute for the discontinued Dharkan. We found no trace of the caramel-like sweetness of the original Nespresso capsule in this pod from Starbucks; yet, the notes of cocoa and caramelized sugar may indeed resemble the now unavailable Dharkan. Caffè Verona is thus not a direct substitute but more like a similar cup of coffee, with a comparable number and quality of flavours.
